Week of Oct 11th

A Message from the Administrative Team:

"Never let the fear of striking out get in your way."
                                                                                                                     ~ George Herman (Babe Ruth)

We hope everyone had a great long weekend filled with lots of food!

We have a short week but filled with practices for Girls 7/8 slo-pitch and cross country. Go Bessborough!

Just a reminder to parents to call in the school or email our safe arrival prior to 9:00 am if your child will be absent.  If your child is participating in a school sporting event you do not need to call in their absence.

Have an incredible week!
~ Ms Broderick and Ms Rosenbloom

A Message from our Director John Malloy

This video has been created as a tool to help explain the role that parents/guardians play in supporting student achievement and well-being and emphasizes the importance of parent engagement across our system.

Signing Students Out

In order to follow our Caring & Safe School Policy, parents should buzz through the front doors and report to the office to pick up your child.  Office staff will call your child and sign them out.

Please pick up your child prior to recess or lunch times to make it easier to locate your child.  During these times, staff are the only adults allowed on the playground unless parents have signed in as visitors.

Getting Ready for Google Apps

Many classes are using Google Apps for classroom use to post announcements & homework, upload assignments, participate in classroom discussions and to share assessments with parents. You can familiarize yourself as a parent to become familiar with how some of the Google Apps work. Check out some of these videos to help you get started.

Working Google Doc from your drive but can't find it??
Your child's TDSB account is a Google Education account.  If your child has a personal gmail account or someone in the household does, they may be working from a different account.  See this tutorial on how to manage multiple accounts.

The Terry Fox National School Run/Walk Day - Thurs. Oct 6th

It was a great day!  Thank you Mr. Baker for creating this video!

Winter Clothing Drive

Do you have old winter gear piling up? Want to get rid of it? Have we got the solution for you!

Bessborough is holding a Winter Clothing Drive this coming week! We are requesting, gently-used, clean gear to donate to those less fortunate. Bessborough is pairing up with Rene Gordon Elementary School to provide the latter's students with badly needed clothes for the winter. All sizes are welcome and useful donations include:
- hats
- mittens
- scarves
- winter coats
- snow pants
- winter boots (in high demand!)

Students can bring these clothes to their classroom as of Wednesday, October 12th. Our last day of collection will be Monday, October 17th.

We thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!
M. Jain and J. Daga

Fundraising Committee Brainstorming
Are you addicted to Pinterest or HGTV?  Love planning your family & friends’ events?  Have you ever attended an event and thought to yourself…if only they did ‘this’?  If you answered YES to any of these questions, come out on Tuesday, October 18th to brainstorm fundraising ideas for our school.  The Fundraising Committee is looking for some new perspective and ideas from our community.  New to our school?  Come for an hour, meet our creative parents and share your ideas.  If you are interested in attending, please email Jennifer O’Donnell at jodonnell@curacomm.net to confirm.

Gobble, Gobble!
Congratulations to Ms. Jain who won this year’s Staff Appreciation Turkey Draw!  Once again, this was a huge hit with staff and students!  Lots of anticipation as everyone waited to see which staff member would be the last one standing and going home with a turkey for Thanksgiving.  Thanks to our Appreciation Chairs Suzanne Sharples and Elvira Chew for spearheading this initiative.  Click here to check out the creative way they did the draw.

Appreciation Corner
A huge THANK YOU to Jacqui Dickens and Laura Rumble who have taken over the position of Lunch Program Coordinators and have already done an amazing job of getting everything in order!  Thanks also to Celine Smith for doing this role last year and for helping set up the fall programs before passing the torch!
Another big thanks goes out to the Bessborough Child Care Centre for funding last week’s Lice Check and to our lice check volunteers Liz Speller, Jackie Lincoln, Janet Embir and Suzanne Sharples.
