Week of Oct 17th

A Message from the Administrative Team:

"Everything you can imagine is real."
                                                                                                                     ~ Pablo Picasso

What great weather we had this weekend however it looks like rain may take over this week!  We have lots of outdoor events this week including Cross Country and Jr Boys Slo-pitch.

We also have our WE day club participating in the big WE day event at the ACC.  We look forward to having our students participate in events to help others.

Just a reminder that with wet weather, please have extra clothing like socks and indoor shoes to help keep the kids dry.

Have a marvelous week!
~ Ms Broderick and Ms Rosenbloom

Choices for 9 Parent Presentations
This year the grade 8 students will begin to explore and understand the overall transitioning process from Grade 8 to 9.    There will be a parent information session on Thursday, October 20th from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the North Gym at Northlea EMS (305 Rumsey Road).   It is highly recommended that all grade 8 families attend this very important meeting.  This session will provide information about key dates, timelines, Optional Attendance procedures, Secondary School programs and requirements, Secondary School Open House dates and times, Course Selection and much more.  Grade 7 parents who are interested in learning about this process are also welcome to attend.  For those parents unable to attend this session, an online offering using adobe connect will be scheduled in November, date to be confirmed.
Student information sessions are taking place throughout the month of October.  Students will continue to learn about the Specialized Programs offered at various high schools.   The goal of these sessions is to provide every grade 8 student and their family the information they need to make an informed and confident decisions regarding their secondary school program.

Grade 7 Meet & Greet
Calling all Grade 7 parents!  You are invited to a Meet & Greet THIS Monday October 17th at 7pm at the Leaside Pub.  Come have a drink and meet grade 7 families, catch up with old friends and chat with Bessborough staff.  See you there!

Fundraising Committee Brainstorming
At Bessborough we run a lot of amazing fundraisers but we want to drain your brain for more great ideas to help give back to the school and have fun with our community.  If you are addicted to Pinterest or HGTV, love planning your family and friends’ events, or have suggestions for new and exciting things we could do, please come out THIS Tuesday, October 18th for a brainstorming session.  The Fundraising Committee is looking for your perspective and ideas.  New to our school?  Come for an hour, meet our creative parents and share your ideas.  Please email Jennifer O’Donnell at jodonnell@curacomm.net to let her know you are keen.

Dance-a-thon is just around the corner - Monday, October 31st
Look out for pledge forms which will be coming home this week.  Tax receipts are available for donations over $25.  Students who raise $25 or more will also receive a glow ring at the dance!  Please email Stacey Niman at staceyniman@gmail.com if you can help out on the day of this event.  The kids typically raise about $5,000 for the school and love the dancing!
Clean Your Eaves, Help the School!
Having a hard time seeing the connection?  Our friends at Jiffy are extending their exclusive Men With Axes offer to us all - have your eaves cleaned for $115 (based on a 2,500 sq ft home) and Jiffy will donate $50 to Bessborough Home & School.  We all need to get rid of those fall leaves, so why not help out the school at the same time?  If 50 people take advantage of this offer, Jiffy will donate $2,500!  Book your eaves cleaning by Friday October 28th and use the promo code menwithaxes so Jiffy can track the jobs!

Police Checks
A reminder that if you want to volunteer in the school or attend a class trip, you need to have a valid police check.  Request a form from the office or ask your class parent for a PDF version of the form.  It must be filled out and printed in legal size and handed in to the office in a sealed envelope with a $20 certified cheque or money order made out to Toronto Police Services.  If you’ve already done a police check, you still need to verify your ‘Clear’ status every year.  Declarations can be done via email to Renee Cronier at Renee.Cronier@tdsb.on.ca.

Kindie Cocktails!
Enjoy cocktails and conversation outside of the yard!  The Kindergarten Welcome Night is on Thursday October 27th from 7:30-10:30pm.  This is a wonderful chance to chat with other parents and Bessborough staff over a few drinks and great food in a relaxing environment.  Kindly hosted by Alison and Cameron Steinman, 80 Cameron Crescent.

It’s Easy being Green
Bessborough wants to go more green!  We are looking for parent volunteers to be part of the Eco Schools Initiative.  This is a board-mandated group of teachers, kids and parents who will meet on occasion and determine, initiate and support activities to make our school more environmentally friendly.  Contact Stacey Niman at staceyniman@gmail.com if you’re interested.
