Week of May 29th

A Message from the Administrative Team:

"Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together."
                                                                                                       ~ Paul Ryan

What a great day for Mayfair!  Mother Nature was definitely on Bessborough's side.  It's a great time to bring the whole community together.

Grade 3-6 students will be participating in EQAO this week.  Students will be writing in the morning and the afternoon will be with their homeroom teachers for some activity time. Please schedule any appointments you have after lunch.

As we enter our last month of school please help us maintain our school routines.  Students who are late need to report to the office before going to class.  All visitors must report to the office.  Students who are being signed out will meet their parents in the office to avoid visitors roaming the hallways and disruptions to instructional time. Late lunches can be dropped off at the table near the office.  Please let Christina know

Don't forget to search the hallways and entrances for any lost & found items.  You might want them for the summer!

Have an amazing week!
~ Ms Broderick and Ms Rosenbloom

Did you know...

... this weekend marks the start of Ramadan (month of fasting).

Some of our students at Bessborough will be fasting from about 3:45 am - 9:00 pm (no food and water during this time) for the next 30 days. Teachers will be keeping a close eye on these students especially on those hot/muggy days.

Mr Baker will have his room open at lunch (starting this Wednesday) for any students fasting that would like to stay away from the sun and the lunchroom.

Thank you Mr Baker!

Thank you Home & School!

We would like to send a big thank you to all the parents who provided treats for staff last week during Staff Appreciation week.  With all the activities happening recently, these treats were a great pick me up for all staff.  Thank you!

Bike Donation:

Thank you to those who dropped off bikes at Mayfair!

Bikes will be donated to help
support the Thorncliffe community.

If you didn't get a chance to drop
off your gently used bike, you can still
drop them off Monday.

For more information about the Bike Drive,
contact Andrew at

Kilometer Club:

It’s Back... KILOMETER CLUB 2017!
This is a non-competitive activity for ALL Bessborough students to participate in!

WHEN:  Every morning for 9 days starting Monday May 29th to THURSDAY June 8th  2017

TIME:  8:10 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. (20 minutes)

WHERE: Bessborough South Yard

What to do?    Run or walk around the south schoolyard field and collect one popsicle stick for each lap they complete. Goal is to run/walk as many laps as possible & collect one charm for your bracelet after you are finished running. A bracelet will be provided on the first day of Kilometer Club for all runners.

ATTENDANCE:  Participate as many mornings as you can to collect ONE charm per day!  After the run, check in at the attendance table with your teacher’s  name and how many popsicle sticks you collected that day; at the end of the two weeks we will total all the popsicle sticks collected by all runners to see how far Bessborough students have run across Canada (each stick will equal  approx. 200m).  Students can run as many laps as they would like during the 20 minutes, in fact, it’s encouraged!   The class with the most KM’s run at the end of Kilometer Club will be awarded a prize.

COST:  It is free! Thanks to Home and School funding

Why Participate?   To promote fitness, well-being and to have fun!
***PLEASE NOTE that Kilometer Club is a volunteer parent based club with as a staff sponsor. Therefore parents/guardians of the child(ren) must stay or make arrangements with another parent to supervise.  We will need lots of parents to hand out popsicle sticks to the runners

Bessborough Child Care Centre Students:  please ensure you drop off your children by 8AM to allow one of the BCCC staff to bring them out all together and accounted for.

FINAL NOTES:
*IF it is raining there will be NO Kilometer Club that day
*REMEMBER to eat a healthy breakfast before KC and bring a healthy snack /water for       afterwards!
**Look for the Map of Canada posted in the main hallway to check on our school’s progress as we run across Canada for 8 days!

*** A prize will be awarded to the class that has the most participants over the 9 days!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Triina Forbell: tforbell@hotmail.com

One More Chance to Order a Yearbook:
If you haven’t ordered your yearbook yet, you have one more chance!
Order your Yearbook to commemorate the 2016-17 school year at Bessborough with the attached order form.
Just drop it off with a cheque to the office, or to your child’s teacher by June 6th. Yearbooks must be pre-ordered from the printer, so don’t miss out!!

Athletic Club:

Because there was such a great turnout this past week, the Athletic Council had decided to continue grade 3-4 intramurals! Both grade 3s and 4s will be Wednesday at lunch. Please be prepared!

This Monday will be the first day for the Kilometer Club. Movement Matters will come to an end and resume again next year.

We hope to see you there!

    Community Coffee
These meetings are held in the mornings in a local restaurant (often Longo's on Laird). They are attended by the Supervisory Officers for our area, parents and community members.  There may be a report from the Board but there is no Agenda and attendees raise issues they would like to discuss.
