Week of April 24th

A Message from the Administrative Team:

"Track and Field is the best way to reach out for kids. It doesn't matter how fast you are. You always want to beat someone."                                                                                                                                                         ~ Carl Lewis

Hope you all had a great weekend!

It will be a busy week with lots of workshops and sporting event for our Bessborough students and staff.  Please make sure you check out our school calendar for all the latest events.

This week we have Track & Field.  Please make sure students have water bottles, snacks  and a hearty lunch for these days.

Just a reminder that Thursday is Pizza lunch day and will continue as usual for the junior Track & Field day.

Have a fantastic week!
~ Ms Broderick and Ms Rosenbloom

Did you know...

...that Trinket has been visiting our students for the past 2 years?  She is part of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs Toronto Pack who comes in once a week to visit our classrooms. Trinket loves coming into the primary classes during their reading time.  She often will sit on the carpet and have students pet her while they read to her.  One of the most favourite things she loves to do.

Trinket has also helped students who are experiencing anxiety, or students who sometimes just need a break from class.  She also comes to visit on our special days like the Terry Fox run or Track & Field days.

We love seeing Trinket!

Yearbook Cover Contest Has Just Begun!

The yearbook committee is calling all students to enter this year’s Yearbook Cover Contest. Students can get full details of the contest in the office or from the posters hung around the school. Entries should be dropped off in the office by Friday, May 12

Keep sending in those photos too! Any photos you’d like to share with us, please send to

Be sure to send best quality and the largest file size you have (highest resolution) or if sending from your iPhone, please send “Actual Size”. For any questions, please email Sue Thurow at or Corey Ferguson at

This week the Wellness Group discussed ways to ease anxiety. We will be sharing some of our favourite suggestions during the morning announcements.
We continue to fill our High 5 Board with acts of kindness. Be sure to add a high 5 hand when you see someone doing something kind and let's all work towards making kindness part of our day.

Enrichment Updates - Science Day & the Kindie Yard
Ask your kids about the cool things they got up to on Friday April 21st - our school-wide Science Day at Bessborough!  It’s an initiative led by our teachers and supported with Home & School Enrichment funds.  We look forward to pictures and news of the day soon.

Also check out the kindie yard if you haven’t already.  The blackboards are in use, the grass is growing and the sand is soon to arrive.  That’s one big sandbox!

Northlea Math Nights
Northlea Home and School is hosting two math education nights for parents. Bessborough parents are invited to attend.

Sought after math guru Trevor Brown will be giving a talk called "Learning and Teaching Mathematics in a Technological Age: A Paradigm Shift".

The first talk - which will be held on May 1st - is aimed at parents of children from Grades 6-8, and the second - on May 3rd - is geared to parents of younger children, kindergarten to Grade 5.  You can read more about these two events and be sure to RSVP here.

Appreciation Corner
A shout out to the Bessborough Child Care Centre for sponsoring the recent Lice Check at the school.  And to the parent volunteers who helped out - Jackie Lincoln, Lisa Jones, Janet Embir and Liz Speller.  THANK YOU!

Visit now for details on what’s happening at the school!
